Student Calendar (Janka)

Let’s start off the new year with some calendar comics by my students in Slovakia.

I asked my fifth graders to draw me some month-by-month comics about various parts of their lives — family, holidays, nature, their communities, etc..  (At least, I think that’s what I asked them!  I’m still never quite sure how my Slovak is coming across, once I leave the familiar bounds of small-talk…)  Here are some months by Janka:

As an English speaker, I appreciate how the Slovak Calendar uses the familiar Latinate month names.  (Thanks, invading Roman soldliers from 2,000 years ago!)

Each of these comics provides such a unique glimpse into the artist’s life.  Reading them makes me miss my students all the more!  Stay tuned for more samples…
