We do not drink milk from box

<< BEFORE: Rabbit discusses racism and survival with host

Then host keeps hearing strange slurping gulping noise from kitchen:

NOTE: This Slovak mom is lovingly teaching lively child right way to behave; this comic is not meant make fun of that.  Sometimes by playing up comedy and exaggerating aspects of situation we can lose sight of finer points of parenting.  Do you still get sense of mom’s patience and support?

UPDATE: I changed last two panels, because instead of showing more drool I realized I needed to show mom washing child!  This also brings up typical dynamic of caring mom washing own son while worrying about Rabbit’s health & diet at same time.  Drawing comics involves choosing MOST IMPORTANT MOMENTS from endless selection of possible moments to emphasize.  Perhaps one can never fully master this skill; perhaps that is what keeps us drawing?

NEXT:  What do you know about problem? >>

  1. This host in the comics reminds me of how my grandmas were. So much hospitality. I miss them.I live here in Kentucky and sometimes I feel like a pebble on a beach of sand.No one to relate to,thanks for all your hard work on these comics.

    • I hear you! Now that I am back in Yankee culture, I am always AMAZED and SHOCKED when it is dinner time but people just get food, put it on a plate, sit down, and start to eat — without any little ceremony or DOBRU CHUT’ or anything for the people around them! The same goes for drink. In fact, it seems rather austere and bleak when people are not forcing plate after plate of food on you here…
