Truth is, Slovak state was very prosperous at the time. Slovakia contributet comparably little to the war effort of the Axis, yet was not in direct threat of military action (until 1944 that is), but the demand for exports was guaranteed, plus direct German investments into strategic infrastructure such as railways or roads, strong agrarian sector meant that food shortages were rare, if ever existent, in wartime Slovakia. Even Switzerland was, according to some accounts, in worse shape than Slovakia. Think about that.
All in all, Slovakia fared rather well economically in 1941-1943, in part probably because the architects of Slovak economy were non-partisan and as such had different priorities than straining the country for benefit of nazism.
And they paid many prices for that prosperity when Ukrainians and Russians arrived after war…
