I have lately become fascinated by this particular spot.  Not only did city planners in the 1960s build an enormous highway bypass right on the front steps of the old cathedral (where Hungarian kings once held coronations), but they built it by razing the old synagogue which stood nearby, just outside the ruins of the old city walls.  (More about this in later sketches.)

The new section Petržalka (on the other side of the Danube) is, I have heard, the most densely populated settlement in Eastern Europe.

The New Bridge (Novy Most) is also known familiarly as the UFO.
